For many, chocolate has lost its essence. Industrial shortcuts and excessive additives have stripped away the depth and beauty that nature intended.
Juthan began as a quiet rebellion against that. My wife, Karolina — a nutritionist and eating-psychology coach — always reminded our family that pleasure in food matters, but only when it’s honest. When we discovered how few chocolates were truly pure, we set out to create chocolate that honours both the body and the senses — chocolate made to be savoured, not rushed.
What began as a family pursuit in Surrey has become a calling: to craft extraordinary chocolate that inspires slow, mindful indulgence.
A Personal Pursuit of Flavour
I’ve loved chocolate all my life. But I didn’t want to simply remould someone else’s recipe; I wanted to build flavour from its true beginning — the cacao bean.
From day one, I imagined chocolate that is smooth, rich, and layered, where every ingredient serves a purpose and nothing is superfluous. Our bars celebrate flavour — not sugar — and reflect a belief that less can indeed be more.
That dedication has since been recognised with multiple national awards — including Great British Food Gold, Great Taste, Farm Shop & Deli, and Veggie Awards — each celebrating our pursuit of balance, texture, and taste sophistication.
Craftsmanship as a Calling
Every origin we work with is treated as a unique expression of nature. Cacao is gently roasted in small batches, each profile refined to reveal its natural character — floral, nutty, or bold.
The chocolate is then patiently refined to achieve its signature velvety smoothness — a process that demands attention, intuition, and time. We work without emulsifiers or artificial aids — a more intricate approach, but one that rewards patience with purity.
Our natural infusions — coffee, juniper, lavender, vanilla — are woven seamlessly into the chocolate, so their flavour feels part of the composition, never an addition.
Ethics in Every Detail
Growing up in South Africa taught me to value the unseen work behind every harvest. At Juthan, we source cacao through direct and transparent relationships with farmers who are
paid fairly and treated with respect.
Each bar represents a shared commitment — from the grower’s care to our craftsmanship in Surrey — a journey grounded in integrity, sustainability, and slow production.
We continue to craft in micro-batches, giving every bar the time and attention it deserves — a reflection of our belief that true luxury should never be rushed.
